Marlies Visser

Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Curator

Marlies Visser (1966) is active as a graphic designer, illustrator, art director, curator and artistic director. She studied graphic design and illustration at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) and shortly afterwards established herself as an independent graphic designer and art director in Amsterdam and Haarlem. She is the initiator of the Illustration Biennale an international festival and podium for Illustration in collaboration with the Professional Organization of Dutch Designers (BNO) and founded the Illustration Embassy in 2020 where she is now director. For several years she was part of professional juries, such as the jury of the Best Dutch Book Designs and until 2020 as chair of the Gouden en Zilveren Penselen jury and working as Head of Illustration Design at ArtEZ, University of the Arts in The Netherlands. She is co-author of the philosophical board game Nomizo and most recently working on a book accompagning this game.
